It's Not What You Know
July 29th, 2010
Hi Everyone,
Have you ever heard the phrase it's not what you know, but who you know?
Looking back over my life, not all, but most of the favour I have experienced happened to me not because of what I know, but who I know. What I know has some importance, but the most crucial ingredient for favour is who I know. There is a little scripture with big implications that can be found in the gospel of Luke 2:52 "And Jesus grew in favour with God and man..."
How did Jesus grow in favour with God? Through relationship! Jesus grew in favour as he grew in relationship. The more his relationship with God grew, the more he was favoured. The more his relationship with people around him grew the more favour he received. Positionally Jesus was the Messiah, but experientially all his success happened because of relationship.
It's a simple formula but so many of us forget that the depth of relationship determines the extent of favour.
Every one of us has needs and desires that we desperately need God to help us with and the secret to favour is relationship. And the key to relationship with God is prayer. The more you pray the more favour you receive. The more God speaks to you, the more miracles you experience. You need to get the zone in order to access the supernatural realm of His favour. It's like with a laptop, it's simply not enough to just have an account, but you must actually find the hotspot in order to get connected. The same goes with your relationship with Jesus. The more you are connected the more favour you receive. The more you pray, the more you can expect. The deeper, the more vibrant, the more current the relationship is, the greater the favour. Jesus himself grew in favour with God by prayer. Elijah is described by James in chapter 4 as an ordinary man just like us but when he prayed he went from the ordinary to the extraordinary. When he increased his relationship through prayer, he increased in favour.
I feel this very strongly on my heart. We are in a transition of seasons. We are coming into a new season. And just like a farmer prepares for the next season, so we need to fast. I'm about to go into a season of prayer and fasting and I want to invite you to join me. I have no doubt whatsoever that the favour of God will come on you because of your prayers.
